Operational Principles

Charter of Operational Principles

  1. Support work in geographical regions where there is an under representation of international aid organizations
  2. Specifically target the poorest of the poor and marginalized people as being the primary beneficiaries of CAUSE Canada’s programs
  3. Honor long-term development commitments to communities and partners; respecting the fact that development is a process and that good projects beget good projects.
  4. Commit ourselves to supporting programs in the rural regions of the developing world as a means of redressing the urban migration problem
  5. Emergency relief operations will only be undertaken if the crisis occurs in one of the geographical regions where CAUSE Canada can clearly demonstrate a proven expertise or track record
  6. CAUSE Canada places a priority upon working at the village level with small scale initiatives which clearly demonstrate a high degree of local ownership
  7. Environmental impact assessments are an integral part of every CAUSE Canada supported project, and the agency considers environmental protection to be a cornerstone for the building of just and sustainable societies
  8. Gender and justice issues are high priorities for CAUSE Canada. Women, minorities and disenfranchised people will be given priority in both program selection and hiring practices.
