English Channel Swim

Well done Allison!  Allison completed her English Channel swim on Sunday September 6th!

In late August, eighteen year old Allison Donelon will attempt to become the second-youngest Canadian to ever swim the English Channel. The Canmore native, who has spent most of her swimming career in the pool at the Canmore Recreation Center, will be swimming in open ocean water for only the third time in her life. The English Channel is a notoriously difficult swim, known in the swimming community for it's harsh currents. Allison however, is extremely confident-- and rightly so. The swimmer, who competed in her first distance race at age eight, recently spent six hours at Lake Okanagan in twelve degree water, and has been known to sneak in a swim at the Quarry before the ice has even melted.

Allison has chosen to use the publicity garnered by her courageous swim to raise awareness about CAUSE Canada's work in Sierra Leone. She describes herself as a passionate advocate of CAUSE Canada's Women Empowement Projects and wants to use the hype surrounding her incredible achievement in a way which provides opportunities for success to other women around the world.

To support Allison, and the women of Sierra Leone please donate to her race pledge page.

All proceeds raised by Allison on her journey across the channel will provide basic literacy and numeracy, business development and leadership training to disadvantaged women in Sierra Leone.
