David in Honduras

After over five months in Ciriboya, a remote community in Honduras, I think it’s fair to say the experience has been profound, challenging and rewarding.  It has been an opportunity to become deeply familiar with a culture that is distantly removed from our own.  I have developed a richer understanding of the different challenges faced by people around the world and a more informed sense of empathy for the world’s poverty-afflicted regions, not to mention a sense of admiration for the individuals therein who manage to thrive personally despite the material hardships of their lives.  My responsibilities were related to HIV/AIDS education.  I worked on developing and implementing new approaches to HIV/AIDS education, including incorporating technology into the workshops.  Although the challenges faced by me personally in the course of this internship have been considerable, I am very grateful to have had this opportunity, and will never forget my time in Honduras.
