Ciriboya placed me in a different world. Its culture, isolation, climate and language created a perfect environment to help me identify the barriers, personal and professional, that I have between myself and becoming a better person and health worker. Hurricanes together with the unpredictability of development work, have helped me become a more flexible person. The need to adapt to my surroundings put me at ease with nature - mainly being exposed to many threatening creatures – and the lack of any form of technology. Living in a cross-cultural setting also helped me work on my communication skills and learning of different cultural values, among other things.
I feel grateful for having been placed in such a unique community and to have had the chance to be tested and rewarded in so many different areas.
