I feel very blessed to have been able to participate in this internship and am very grateful to both CAUSE and CIDA. My position was Microbusiness consultant in Guatemala. I lived and worked in Comitancillo and also worked in Todos Santos, both located in the Guatemalan highlands. My primary tasks were to compile a business curriculum and to assist with organizing a microcredit loan program. I found the experience both challenging and rewarding. It was challenging in the sense that during the internship I was learning new skills while working with people from a very different culture, with a different education and socioeconomic background. It was rewarding because I was given the opportunity to live in another culture and work in development, a field that was new to me but had always interested me. Development is a slow and long process and when I left I was not able to see any great changes in the people that I worked with. However the changes in me were irrefutable and my knowledge about development had greatly increased.
