Green focus

The 2009 Canmore Rocky Mountain Half Marathon, 10km and 5 km race will continue the tradition of excellence.

Going the Distance for Green!

CAUSE Canada is committed to creating the greenest race in Canada! Some of the initiatives we undertook last year to run an environmentally friendly race include:

  • Recycling virtually everything, resulting in a waste-free Start/Finish zone.
  • Exclusively using compostable cups sourced from renewable materials.
  • Operating support-bicycles along the race course, as opposed to typical carbon generating support-vehicles.
  • Administering a paper-free registration process.
  • Serving only food and drinks which are locally and ethically sourced.

The 2009 event promises to be even more sustainable. All proceeds from this year's race will go towards supporting green initiatives in West Africa and Central America. Reforestation, organic agriculture and water projects are several of the green projects CAUSE Canada supports overseas. Join us in creating a legacy of green both here in Canada and for our partners in the south!

In 2009 we will continue to strive to be Canada's Greenest race. Our 2008 race was rated one of North America's top 10 Greenest Races by Runner's World magazine. (http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-243-297--12876-0,00.html)

In 2009 we will aim to provide a well organized, fun race on a beautiful course that contributes to the betterment of our world.
