Positive Project Indicators

The following occurrences and or attitudes on the part of project beneficiaries are taken by CAUSE Canada to be healthy indicators of good development projects:

  1. At both public meetings and at the committee level, a good cross-representation of that there is good representation at all public meetings where a community-based development project is being discussed;
  2. The various factions within a community demonstrate active participation in the decision-making process;
  3. The direct beneficiaries of the project play a major role in defining, and in implementing their project;
  4. The community or partner can demonstrate a capacity for consensus building, and that a strong unified vision as to what to do and how to do it, will emerge from their discussions;
  5. The community or partner demonstrates good conflict resolution skills;
  6. The community or partner demonstrate enthusiasm for learning new things and that they enjoy working cooperatively;
  7. The community or partner show high levels of local contribution as demonstrated either in donated time, materials, or money;
  8. The project beneficiaries demonstrate high levels of independence and pride in both themselves and their work;
  9. There exists the very strong possibility that the project in question will become self-sustaining; and
  10. The project beneficiaries clearly demonstrate a strong sense of project ownership.
