Antigua, Guatemala - Mafe

Antigua, Guatemala

As there was another long weekend, going to Atitlan again sounded very tempting. However, there are so many other places I haven’t visited, that I finally decided I should go somewhere else. I decided to go to Antigua.

After doing some research about where I could stay and the places I should see, I headed there for a few days stay. I do have to say that my search for a hotel took longer than usual. While most places were great, most of the hotels did not have wi fi. Eventually and thank heavens, I did fInd a hotel with wireless internet.

The hotel was close to the craft market and within walking distance of the central park, where most of the sights of Antigua are to be found. Since I already did most, if not all, of my gift shopping, I only headed to the market to window shop, though I did buy some t-shirts that say Guatemala, which were the only gifts I was missing. The central park was full of people and there were so, so many people selling local crafts, you sometimes found it difficult to navigate through all of that.

The entire city reminded me a lot of Cuzco and many other small colonial cities I have visited in Latin America. It was rather nice though to be in a city once again, with all its comings and goings, with the streets full of people, the traffic and everything open until late. I do hope I can go back, at least to spend the day, before going back to Canada.
