CAUSE Canada's Virtual Race to Kabala 2020

This past spring, children in 194 countries were out-of-school as a result of school closures to stop the spread of COVID-19 – over 90% of all children worldwide were no longer attending school. In developing countries, where so many kids already miss out on school, many of the children attending, especially girls, will never go back to school.

Race with us to help reach out-of-school kids so that when the time is right, all kids can go back to school.

Join us from September 1 – 30, 2020 as we race virtually from Kamba-Mamudia in Koinadugu, Sierra Leone to the nearest secondary school in Kabala using the My Virtual Mission App.  Race to Kabala is a one-month virtual race through rural Sierra Leone. You can do it all at once or over the month. Track your progress, check in at points along the trail from Kamba-Mamudia to Kabala in Sierra Leone, and raise funds to help ensure all kids return to school when it is safe again.

Sierra Leone Education

Why Race for Education?

Race to help the most vulnerable kids go to school.

In 2014, schools in Sierra Leone closed in efforts to stop the spread of the Ebola virus. Already so many children were not attending school, and then many of the children previously enrolled, never returned. Girls faced special challenges including child marriage and pregnancies at very young ages.

To attend secondary school, children in the rural communities where CAUSE Canada is working might travel as far as 45 kilometers over terrible, bumpy roads. For children from families that are impoverished and without a school bus, attending school presents unique challenges under regular circumstances. For young adolescent girls, once they have left school, there is very little hope of them returning. Distance is a significant barrier that prevents children from attending school. Each kilometer you run, walk, bike, hike or swim can help conquer that barrier.

This September, race wherever you live to help us provide outreach and support to help all children and especially the most vulnerable return to school.
